Today’s 6th stage of the 2020 Dakar rally took competitors through sand dunes and fast open plains, finally ending in the country’s capital city, Riyadh.
“Now that’s a long day on the bike. Rode away from the bivouac this morning at 6am, got to Riyadh at 8:30pm. Another ridiculously cold morning, I had about 7 layers on trying to stay warm on the road to the start of the special. The organisation had an urn of hot water and tea/coffee at the start so they were in our good books today!”
“As for the stage itself, it was a monster, 477km, but mostly fast open piste stuff with some dunes thrown in every now and again. The terrain itself wasn’t too taxing, but the mental strain of concentrating for that long on your navigation and riding is really something else, I’m pretty destroyed this evening. All good though, rest day tomorrow, recharge the batteries and then it’s into week 2.”
Tomorrow is the rest day in Riyadh, where the bikes and riders will get a much-needed break before the second week of the race.
